Our Journey With Educational Technology

Broadclyst Community Primary School (BCPS) has invested in technology for many years. This has underpinned the growth of the Cornerstone Academy Trust, which now brings three schools on separate campuses together as one. (A fourth school is due to open in September 2020).

The focus on using technology to support both teaching and learning has resulted in an enriched curriculum, enabled a reduction in workload through the use of collaborative tools and allowed for the support, assessment and tracking of progress for individual students and early targetting of support for children with special educational needs.

We offer one-to-one devices for many children and has established multi-screen, digitally enabled classrooms and Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) built in Office 365 and Microsoft Teams to support children’s learning.

What are you doing now to support remote learning?

This wealth of experience made us well-placed to establish rapidly a full virtual school from the start of the Covid-19 lockdown. We have provided a remote learning environment, with devices loaned to those homes needing them. The full programme includes whole-school assemblies, class story times, creative arts, dance, music and cooking alongside the continued delivery of English, phonics, reading and maths in streamed lessons that allow children to fully engage with their teachers, ask questions and receive answers.

Our additional experience of running English, computing and science hubs now allows us to extend virtual support to other schools creating their strategic plan for the use of digital technologies, helping them to develop their use of technology across the curriculum and support and train their teachers.
