Skipton Girls' High School

Skipton Girls' High School is a highly successful school with extremely high aspirations for every student. We believe that education has the power to transform lives and that’s why we strive to provide young women with an innovative, dynamic and academic learning environment which is not constrained by gender stereotypes or a fixed mindset. The Academy is a successful 11-18 selective state school of 800 students recognised as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted twice in succession. Whilst the school is selective on entry to Year 7, Post 16 it is comprehensive with girls joining us from over 20 different secondary schools across the region.

Our Journey With Educational Technology

At Skipton Girls’ High School our students have had one to one access to laptops for nearly 10 years. We have learnt a tremendous amount about making the most effective use of the technology. In normal times, our focus has been on helping teachers use ICT to personalise and accelerate student’s learning. However, in the current climate our use of an effective Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) integrated with other tools such as those provided by Microsoft Office 365 for Education has allowed us to rapidly adapt our pedagogical approach so that we can continue to educate the children in our care and help to care for their pastoral needs. We understand that every school is different and are keen to work with other schools to help design effective digital approaches to teaching and learning that are bespoke to your context. This will be achieved through:

  • Materials, Written Advice, Guidance to Support Effective Learning

  • Group Support to help with specific challenges/topics supporting effective remote learning practices

  • Webinars and recorded content

  • One to One bespoke advice and support to schools most in need of help

  • Activities to support schools on digital safety and online safeguarding

  • Meeting the needs of pupils with SEND

  • Promoting teacher and pupil well-being during remote teaching
